Yarra Geotechnics provides geotechnical site investigations, Factual Reporting, Interpretive Reporting and geotechnical advice to help clients understand ground conditions, manage geotechnical risk and identify practical opportunities for value improvement.

We support residential, commercial, transport, water, renewable energy, power infrastructure, local government and land development projects. Our work can assist with early feasibility, design development, tendering, construction planning and project delivery.

Site investigation capability

Yarra Geotechnics can plan, coordinate and deliver site investigations to suit the scale and purpose of the project. Our investigations may include boreholes, test pits, hand augers, DCP testing, Standard Penetration Testing, undisturbed sampling, soil and rock logging, groundwater observations and coordination of laboratory testing. Depending on the project requirements, we can also assist with specialist testing such as soil aggressivity testing, shrink-swell testing, CBR testing, rock strength testing, thermal resistivity testing and electrical resistivity testing.

Factual Reporting

Our Factual Reports present the investigation scope, fieldwork methods, encountered subsurface conditions, borehole and test pit logs, in-situ test results, laboratory test results and relevant factual observations. Factual Reporting is useful where designers, contractors or project teams require reliable ground investigation data to support design development, tendering, construction planning or further geotechnical assessment.

Interpretive Reporting

Our Interpretive Reports assess the engineering significance of the encountered ground conditions and provide geotechnical interpretation, parameters and recommendations for design and construction.

Depending on the project, our Interpretive Reporting may include assessment of foundation options, bearing capacity, settlement, bored piles, screw piles, earthworks, retaining structures, slope stability, pavement subgrades, excavation conditions, soil aggressivity, drainage considerations and construction-related geotechnical risks.

Managing risk and identifying opportunities

Good geotechnical input should do more than identify constraints. A well-scoped investigation and clear interpretation can help reduce uncertainty, avoid unnecessary conservatism, identify suitable foundation or earthworks options, support more efficient construction methods and reduce the likelihood of costly redesign during construction.
