When your property is built on a site which is sloping significantly then in addition to a standard soil test (Site Classification), you will need to assess the stability of your site before building.
Erosion Management Overlays (EMOs) are regulated by local councils in Victoria to manage areas where landslides or excessive erosion of soil may pose a risk to existing dwelling or proposed developments. To be compliant with the requirements of an EMO or to plan a new building or extensions/additions to an existing dwelling on a sloping block, a geotechnical and Landslip Risk Assessment (LRA) report and Declaration by Chartered Geotechnical Engineer are required.
